Kickstarter Creative Brief (v2)

Objective:

Promote Kickstarter to creative explorers as a crowdfunding website that can help bring creative projects to life - by offering special products and experiences that are unique to each project in exchange for a pledge.

Target Audience:

Creative Explorers

There are two types of Creative Explorers: The Creative Pioneer and The Creative Admirer.

  • The Creative Pioneer is an innovator, a dreamer, a visionary, a risk-taker, an optimist, a trendsetter, and an incubator of great ideas.
  • The Creative Admirer is a follower, an idealist, a believer, a pragmatist, a critic, an early adopter, and an investor in great ideas.

Strategic Idea:

Ideas work better in teams.

Support:

A creative pioneer may have a great idea, but it takes a team to help bring that idea to life.

Kickstarter Poster line re-write- PLEASE give your opinions

Hey everyone! We are trying to take this line and make it sound more positive. I've tried re-writing it several times but I'm unsure on what works best. If you could give your opinions it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

ORIGINAL: Maybe it is the one off-the-wall, chance that out of the blue I'll succeed.

NEW:

It's that one off-the-wall, out-of-the-blue chance that I'll succeed that I strive for.

It's that one off-the-wall, out-of-the-blue chance that I live for.

It's that one off-the-wall, out-of-the-blue chance that I strive for.

It's that one off-the-wall, out-of-the-blue chance that I strive for. I've finally found it.

I live for that one off-the-wall, out-of-the-blue chance that I'll succeed.

This could be that one off-the-wall, out-of-the-blue chance that I'll succeed.

This could be that one off-the-wall, out-of-the-blue chance that I'll succeed. That's enough for me.

I'll take any off-the-wall, out-of-the-blue chance if it means I'll succeed.

ORIGINAL: It took a while for reality to set in, but when it did I couldn't have been more grateful.

NEW:

It took a while for reality to set in, but when it did I can't have imagined it any other way.

It took a while for reality to set in, but not that it has, I can't imagine it any other way.

Now that reality has set in, I can't imagine it any other way.

Kickstarter: App: Page 2: Round 2

These follow the line "Dreams are followed" on the first page of the application. I think these go more along the lines of "You never fail. You just didn't succeed the first time."

1. 1st, 2nd, or 120th draft... as long as you get there.

2. As long as you make it, it doesn’t matter how long it takes.

3. Step 1, step 2, step 5 or step 10. Just keep going.

3. This is the only thing that you have complete control over.

4. The only thing you have control over is your dreams.

5. The only thing you have control over: your dreams.

6. The only thing you have control of is your dreams.

7. You can either give up now or see where it can take you.

8. You can either stop now or see where your dream takes you.

9. Success will only come when you make the decision to move forward.

10. You have two choices: 1. Go after yours. or 2. Don’t

11. Step 1: Decide what you want. Step 2: Go after it.

12. Just because the first one didn’t work doesn’t mean the 2nd won’t.

13. The 1st time may not work, but the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th one might.

14. The 1st time may not work, but that doesn’t mean the last one won’t.

15. You might not succeed the 1st time, but the last time will.

16. The 1st try may not work, but the last one will.

17. The 1st try may not work, but the next one might.

18. Take as many tries as you need to make it work.

19. Figure out what you want. Go after it.

20. Figure out what you want and then go after it.

21. Figure out what you want and then sort out the details.

22. Figure out what you want. Sort out the details. Watch it grow.

Kickstarter: App: Page 2

All of these lines are meant for a phone/ipad application meant to help people still processing out their goals to brainstorm the ideas they have. Screen number 1 of the app reads: Dreams are followed.

These are possible lines for screen number two meant to have something to do with helping to create or brainstorm. Thoughts please!

1. You never fail. You just didn’t have it right the first time.

2. You just didn’t have it right the first time.

3. There’s a reason they call it a brainSTORM.

4. First you must create.

5. The first step is to create.

6. And they all begin by creating.

7. And they all start at creation.

8. And this is the first step.

9. This is the first step.

10. You have just taken the first step to meeting yours.

11. This is the first step to meeting yours.

12. Now yours at your fingertips.

13. And they are in your control.

14. And yours are in the palm of your hand.

15. One click and its yours.

16. But first they must be created.

17. Imagine. Create. Succeed.

18. Success comes with action.

19. Create your dream.

20. Help it come true.

21. You have more power than you think.

22. You just have to take the first step.

23. You just have to initiate the movement.

24. Help speed up the process.

Pre Kick - Project Categories and Collaboration Tools/Apps

According to Kickstarter's website, this is how they categorize projects -

I think Pre Kick should stick with these 13 categories for projects also so there is consistency between Kickstarter and Pre Kick.

If you look at Hotwire's webpage (http://www.hotwire.com) you will see that they have a planning tools menu option on the right-hand side. If you click on it, it has a few tools that can help a person plan a trip. Even though Pre Kick is not a travel website, it can do something similar where it offers users tools that help them create projects and collaborate more effectively online.

Tools/Apps (which could help users create projects & collaborate) Pre Kick could feature on its website -
  1. Color Wheel (good tool for designers and artists to have)
  2. Mind Map (good tool for brainstorming)
  3. Sketchpad
  4. Moodboard
  5. Post-it Notes (you should be able to grab little post-it notes and stick in next to work so other members in your team can see your notes)
  6. Storyboard (film & video users can use this to layout their scenes)
I think these are sufficient tools for version one of the website, unless anyone has some other ideas?

Marina and Thuy - to look for design and layout inspiration for these tools you can just google them. There are a few apps out there. This page shows apps for a Moodboard and a Sketchbook - http://thenextweb.com/dd/2011/03/15/5-ipad-apps-for-wireframing-brainstorming/
Maybe you can download them to get a sense of the app design and layout?

Note: Just make sure Pre Kick's tools/app design and layout is a little different from the ones you find online.

New Poster Line Possibilities

Some options for lines for our posters.

1. Just when I thought it was over, I finally got my break.

2. Just when I thought it was over, I finally got the break I needed.

3. All of those sleepless nights are finally proving to be worth it.

4. After all of those sleepless nights I can finally see why I wanted it all along.

5. After so many sleepless nights I am reminded of why I wanted it so bad.

6. With so many people saying to just give up, this is why I never listened.

7. So many people told me to give up along the way. This is why I never listened.

8. So many people told me to just give up. I’m so glad I didn’t.

9. I am my own worst enemy. Thankfully I had someone there to help with that fight.

10. Thankfully I had millions there to help fight my worst enemy- me.

11. If it wasn’t for you, I would have given up a long time ago.

12. If it wasn’t for them, I probably would have never thought it was possible.

13. I could hardly believe that so many people believed in me.

14. I could hardly believe that so many people would support me and my dream.

15. I could hardly believe that so many people wanted to be a part of what I wanted.

16. It took a while for reality to set in, but when it did I was the happiest person in the world.

17. It took a while for reality to set in, but when it did-- I couldn’t have been more grateful.

18. Step 1: Having the idea. Step 2: Believing in it enough to put it out there. And step 3: Actually make it happen. The last one was easier than I thought it would be.

19. The sleepless nights, endless cups of coffee, and thousands of drafts... they are finally paying off.

20. The sleepless nights, the endless cups of coffee, and hundreds of revisions have finally paid off.

Kickstarter: Radio Spots

(1) Bags of Film :60

FRANTIC WOMAN No! No! Stop!

SFX Running footsteps slowly fade into panting and a truck driving away.

CALM MALE Meet Sarah. She’s trying to save money and  she just missed the only bus that will get her to class on time. She hasn’t noticed yet, but she’s also forgotten to grab her lunch from the kitchen counter. She’s trying to save money to finally get her handbag business up and running.

Shortly she’ll also realize that the coffee she was holding now shows on the front of her brand new white blouse. Normally this wouldn’t be a problem except not only is she already late, but she put off doing laundry over the weekend and there is nothing clean in her closet.

WOMAN Oh no!

MALE The good news is that when she finally gets home she’ll find out that Kickstarter.com will be funding her project to make bags out of 35mm film from old Hollywood movies. They’ll be in stores in no time.

Kickstarter.com... Support the dream.
(2) Mathmetician's Dice :60

SFX Car engine struggling to turn over.

AGGRAVATED MALE Come on you stupid piece of...

CALM WOMAN Meet John. Unfortunately for him, today is the day his car is choosing to be a little sensitive to the cold. It also happens to be the day he’ll run out of gas on the bridge, have someone hit him from behind, and be two hours late for a huge business pitch that could help him make that step up he’s been waiting for.

SFX Engine Turning over

MALE YES!

CALM WOMAN He isn’t going to lose the client, but once he makes it to the office he’ll get his tie caught in the shredder, and slip out calling the CEO “Mr.” instead of “Mrs.”
It’s a good thing Kickstarter.com allowed John to post his idea of putting mathmetician’s dice into production. Because if they didn’t, he would have never gotten 3 times the necessary funding, he would still be sitting in 45 minutes of daily traffic and answering to the same “Mrs. Boss Man.”

Kickstarter.com... You create the dream. They help it come true.

(3) Virtual Letterpress :33

SFX Water running from faucet and bristle of razor over beard stubble

MAN Ouch!

CALM MALE Jake has has just cut himself shaving for the third time. He now has
little pieces of tissue under his nose, on his chin, and now the base of his neck.

He has this amazing idea of creating a virtual letterpress using the iPad to help other creatives use the original letterpress technique to create new and modern typographic designs. If it wasn’t for Kickstarter.com he’d still be  wondering where his next clients will come from. Instead he’ll be trying to find  enough time to create all the custom print requests.

Kickstarter.com... create a dream and and they’ll lead the way.

(4) Brooklyn Kitchen :43

SFX Tapping finger on desk.

CALM MALE It’s 4 o’clock and Julie has been waiting for an hour for her 3 o’clock dentist appointment.

SFX Drilling

CALM MALE She was hoping to get home in time to catch her favorite show, get some work done and head to bed early. But by the time she gets home she’ll  find out she’s got 3 new cavities, all the veggies in her fridge are moldy, and she can’t find her wallet anywhere.
The one good thing is that Kickstarter.com cast her idea of starting a Brooklyn based kitchen to help educate young students in the area about food to millions across the country. Now that $11,000 has been donated she’ll finally turn her idea into a movement.

Kickstarter.com... have a dream and they’ll help build it.

(5) Hip-Hop Database :41

SURPRISED MALE Ahhh! Not again!

SFX Bags rustling.

CALM MALE Simon is already having a rough day. He’s been up for less than an hour and he’s just discovered a lovely little gold mine left like a new sweater from grandma from Mr. Whiskers. Most unfortunately for him, he discovered it by stepping in it.

SFX Cat meows

CALM MALE Next, he’ll rip the cat food bag spilling it all over the kitchen floor, and knock his coffee onto his laptop keyboard. At least he already knows that Kickstarter.com has completely funded his idea to build a Hip-Hop database based off of over 40,000 lyrics since 1979. Now everyone can fully enjoy music the way he does.

Kickstarter.com... have a dream and build it too.

Hello! + 2 New Briefs + Kickstarter Overview

Tuesday 7-10 Section,

Firstly, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Jeet Desai and I am an Account Planner. I am currently enrolled in Wednesday's section of this class.

There are two new briefs this week - one for www.Kickstarter.com and one for John Deere (http://www.deere.com/en_US/deerecom/index.html). You have to choose one brief!
I will be working with you if you choose to do a campaign on Kickstarter and Sarah Tyler (the other account planner) will be working with you if you choose John Deere.

I have written the creative brief for Kickstarter.com. Just scroll down to see it!

Brief Overview on Kickstarter:

Kickstarter.com is a website that helps someone "fund and follow creativity."

What does this mean? - This simple means that a person who has a new/innovative idea for a product or service can post a video describing their idea (with the ultimate goal of raising money to manufacture/sell it). Other people can then view the video, and if they like the idea they can donate money to help produce/sell it.

For example, if you look at this video it might help you get a better understanding - http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/glyphobet/mathematicians-dice?ref=discover_pop
(His idea was mathematician dice and his goal was to raise $2,200 to mass produce it. You can see that he successfully raised the money because a lot of people liked his idea. He raised a total of $15,434. If he hasn't raised $2,200 the people who donated would not have been charged. So basically, this helps the website filter out the not-so-good ideas.)

I recommend watching a few more projects to get a better understanding of the website and how they operate. I hope that also gives you some creative inspiration.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via e-mail - jeetdesai37@gmail.com
I am also willing to meet-up with anyone who needs help. Just email me 2 or 3 days in advance if you would like to meet-up. Otherwise, e-mail or gchat is a good way to get a hold of me. Thanks! :)
